Lamarck’s Angelfish (Genicanthus lamarck)

The Lamarck’s Angelfish, also known as the Freckletail Lyretail Angelfish, stands out among angelfish due to its sexual dimorphism. Both male and female display a silvery-gray base with horizontal black stripes from eye to caudal fin. The female’s bolder stripes extend into and cover the length of the caudal fin. In both genders, the long dorsal fin is black, more pronounced in the female, and the caudal fin is freckled with black.

Easier to maintain than some counterparts, the Lamarck’s Angelfish requires a well-maintained tank of at least 125 gallons. While they may chase small, docile planktivores like Anthias, Fairy Wrasses, Flasher Wrasses, and Fire Gobies, they typically ignore other fish, including fellow Angels. It’s advisable to keep only one male Lamarck’s Angelfish per tank, as they are the only zooplanktivores among angelfish in the Genicanthus genus.

Their diet should include Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, and mysis or frozen shrimp.
