Pygmy Flameback Angelfish
Flameback Angelfish (Centropyge acanthops)
The Flameback Angelfish, also recognized as the African Pygmy Angelfish or Orangeback Angelfish, showcases a vibrant blend of blue and orange-yellow hues. While the body leans towards a predominant blue, a wide and vivid orange to yellow streak runs from the head along the back to the tip of the dorsal fin. Distinguished by its yellow and somewhat transparent caudal fin, it sets itself apart from the Brazilian Flameback Angelfish (also known as the Fireball Angelfish – Centropyge aurantonotus).
This angelfish requires a minimum of a 55-gallon tank with ample hiding spots and live rock for grazing. Occasional nipping at SPS and certain polyp corals in a reef aquarium may occur.
The diet of the Flameback Angelfish should encompass Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty foods.
