Six Bar Angelfish (Pomacanthus sexstriatus)

The Six Bar Angelfish, also known as the Sixbanded or Six Striped Angelfish, boasts a pale-tan body with five evenly-spaced dark brown stripes in adulthood. A distinctive white stripe lies just behind its eye, while dark blue polka-dots adorn its body, with vibrant sapphire-blue dots accentuating its caudal and anal fins.

Divers and aquarists note its warning grunts when approached. Hermaphroditic and challenging to breed, this large fish requires a tank of at least 220 gallons with ample hiding spots and live rock. While not reef-compatible due to its tendency to nip at corals and clam mantles, its diet should include Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty items, feeding at least three times daily.

Purchase sizes range from Juvenile Small: 1″ to 1-3/4″ to Large: 5″ to 7″.
