Pictilis Anthias (Painted Goldie) (Pseudanthias pictilis)

The Pictilis Anthias, also known as the Painted Goldie, features a pinkish-blue body with a prominent blue oval on the caudal fin and vibrant orange-red coloration on the rear third of its body.

As one of the larger Anthias species, Pictilis Anthias thrive best with a single male and a small group of females in the same tank. A 125-gallon tank is sufficient for one fish, but if you plan to keep a group, a tank of up to 180 gallons or larger is recommended for optimal success. These fish prefer an aquarium with multiple hiding places and caves and initially favor lower lighting conditions, as they are typically found in moderately deep water.

Anthias are hermaphroditic; if the dominant male dies, the largest female in the group will often change sex to become the new male.

Once acclimated to a new environment, Anthias benefit from a varied diet, including frozen mysis shrimp and enriched frozen brine shrimp. Over time, they may also accept high-quality flake foods, provided in small amounts throughout the day. An attached refugium that cultivates copepods and amphipods can offer a consistent supply of nutritious live food, ensuring the Pictilis Anthias remain healthy and active.
