Black Storm Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris var.)

The Captive-Bred Black Storm Clownfish is a striking designer clownfish, resulting from a unique mutation in selective breeding. This clownfish features an exaggerated white body pattern with a nearly all-white face and black eyes, creating a charming “panda pattern” enhanced by distinctive black markings. Each Black Storm Clownfish displays a unique pattern, making every individual truly one-of-a-kind. These fish are shipped as juveniles.

The Black Storm Clownfish thrives in aquariums of at least 20 gallons, preferably with ample live rock. It can form a symbiotic relationship with various anemone species, including Carpet (Stichodactyla sp.), Sebae (Heteractis crispa), Bulb (Entacmaea quadricolor), or Ritteri (Heteractis magnifica). Although not essential for their well-being, if you choose to add an anemone, ensure that your aquarium and lighting can meet its needs.

Captive-bred clownfish, like the Black Storm Clownfish, offer several advantages over wild-caught species. They are hardy and better adapted to home aquarium conditions, making them an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists. The Black Storm Clownfish can also be kept with other captive-bred clownfish if introduced simultaneously.

Breeding Black Storm Clownfish at home is relatively straightforward, making them a popular choice for saltwater breeders. The female will be larger than the male, and the pair typically remains close together. The Black Storm Clownfish lays eggs on flat surfaces or near the base of the host anemone, guarding them from other tank mates. The eggs usually hatch within 6 to 11 days, depending on temperature. The fry should be reared in a separate tank and fed a diet of rotifers followed by baby brine shrimp.

As omnivores, Black Storm Clownfish require a balanced diet that includes both meaty foods and greens. They readily accept high-quality marine flake foods rich in spirulina algae, as well as freeze-dried and frozen options.
