Ruby Clownfish
Ruby Clownfish (Amphiprion rubrocinctus)
The Ruby Clownfish, also known as the Australian Anemonefish or (Amphiprion rubrocinctus), is a captivating captive-bred species that can grow up to 4 inches in length. These fish feature dark brown or blackish sides with a single pale bar behind their head, while their nose, breast, belly, and fins are typically a vibrant red. Although generally peaceful, Ruby Clownfish can become territorial and exhibit aggression within their domain.
Native to the coastal waters of Northwestern Australia, Ruby Clownfish are commonly found in shallow, sheltered lagoons and coastal seaward reefs at depths ranging from 1 to 12 meters (3.3 to 39.3 feet). They maintain a symbiotic relationship with anemones, which offer them protection from predators and food scraps. In return, the clownfish attract other fish to the anemone with their bright colors, helping the anemone capture prey, which the clownfish then share. Additionally, clownfish contribute to the health of the anemone by fertilizing it with their waste.
