Rainford Goby (Court Jester) (Koumansetta rainfordi)

The Court Jester Goby, also known as Rainford’s Goby or Old Glory, was first identified in the Western Pacific in 1940 by Whitely. Named for its striking coloration, this goby features a vibrant green and blue body with horizontal orange stripes extending along its length. It is a shy and peaceful fish, making it an excellent addition to both reef and fish-only aquariums. For optimal care, the Court Jester Goby should be housed in a well-established 10-gallon or larger aquarium with live rock and sand for grazing. It is best to keep only one of these gobies per tank unless the setup is large with plenty of hiding spots. While generally non-aggressive towards other species, it is important to provide a peaceful environment. The Court Jester Goby has the potential to spawn successfully in an aquarium setting. Its diet should include filamentous algae and small crustaceans, such as live and frozen brine shrimp and mysis shrimp.
