Yellow Back Goatfish
Yellow Back Goatfish (Parupeneus barberinus)
The Yellow Back Goatfish, also known as the Dash and Dot, Half and Half Goatfish, or Swarthy-headed Goatfish, is a relatively new yet rapidly growing favorite in the aquarium hobby. If you’re looking for something distinctive, the Yellow Back Goatfish offers a lively and engaging presence. These hardy fish bring dynamic activity to the aquarium as they actively patrol the sand bed, foraging for food and adding a unique charm to your setup.
For optimal care, an established aquarium of at least 125 gallons is recommended, providing ample swimming space and rockwork with several hiding spots. The tank should have a moderate layer of substrate to allow the Yellow Back Goatfish to use its barbels for sifting through the sand in search of invertebrates, small crustaceans, and worms. This sifting not only helps locate food but also keeps the substrate well-oxygenated. Goatfish are best housed with less aggressive tank mates.
Feed the Yellow Back Goatfish a diet of fresh or frozen meaty foods. Due to their high metabolism, they should be fed four to five times daily.
