Spanish Hogfish (Bodianus rufus)

The Spanish Hogfish is a vibrant species featuring a golden-yellow body accented by blue patches and violet-edged scales.

This fish is highly effective at removing parasites from tank mates. However, it requires a tank of at least 150 gallons, preferably a fish-only setup, as it may otherwise turn a reef tank into its feeding ground. It tends to be aggressive towards smaller, more passive fish.

As it matures, the Spanish Hogfish’s diet includes a variety of meaty foods such as snails, worms, mussels, small fish, shrimp, and squid.
