Bennets Sharpnose Puffer (Canthigaster bennetti)

The Bennett’s Sharpnose Puffer, also known as Bennett’s Toby, Roseband Sharpnose Puffer, Roseband Toby, or Exquisite Toby, is a vibrant and engaging fish with a playful array of colorful spots and bars. Its body is adorned with brilliant orange and turquoise patterns, creating a festive look reminiscent of confetti and streamers. The fish’s body is divided into a stormy olive-gray dorsal half and a pearly white ventral half, giving it a dynamic and lively appearance that matches its curious and personable nature. Belonging to the genus Canthigaster, commonly known as Sharp-nosed Puffers or Tobies, the Bennett’s Sharpnose Puffer can be found in open sand slopes and rubble zones within reef flats and sheltered lagoons in its natural habitat. The striking coloration and patterns of this puffer serve a practical purpose, providing camouflage from both predators and prey. The cryptic markings and countershading help break up its outline, blending it into its environment. For an ideal setup, provide a 50-gallon or larger, fish-only aquarium decorated with live rock and rubble, along with ample open swimming spaces. In this environment, the Bennett’s Sharpnose Puffer may use its fused beak-like teeth to crush and consume any invertebrates it can fit in its mouth. To maintain a healthy diet, offer a variety of meaty foods and vegetable matter.
