Dogface Puffer (Arothron nigropunctatus)

The Arothron Dog Face Puffer, also known as the Blackspotted Puffer, is named for its canine-like appearance. This puffer undergoes notable changes in appearance throughout its life. In its gray phase, it features a gray body with black markings around the mouth, eyes, and dorsal fin, while its pectoral fins are yellow. During the half-yellow phase, it displays a yellow underbelly with a dark gray upper body, and its facial markings remain similar to the gray phase. Occasionally, the body may be adorned with black spots that can be either gray or yellow. It rarely changes phases in an aquarium setting. This puffer lacks pelvic fins but is highly maneuverable, relying on its pectoral, dorsal, and anal fins for movement. Instead of traditional teeth, it possesses a fused beak-like structure used to crush its prey.
