Clown Tang
Clown Tang (Acanthurus lineatus)
The Clown Tang, also known as the Clown Surgeonfish, Lined Surgeonfish, or Blue-banded Surgeonfish, features striking horizontal blue stripes against a bright yellow to orange backdrop, along with prominent peduncle spines.
To thrive, the Clown Tang requires a spacious aquarium of at least 250 gallons, providing ample room for swimming. It also needs very clean and well-oxygenated water. This species is known for its aggression towards other tangs, surgeonfish, and fish with similar body shapes or feeding habits.
While the Clown Tang will consume meaty foods offered alongside other tank inhabitants, it is crucial to provide a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae. This diet helps boost its immune system, minimize aggression, and enhance overall health. Feed dried seaweed—either tied to a rock or using a veggie clip—at least three times per week. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal and easy to use.
