Lieutenant (Tennant) Tang (Acanthurus tennenti)

The Lieutenant Tang, native to the reefs of the Maldives Islands, is distinguished by its tan body adorned with darker lines. It features a striking blue outline around the scapula and the anal fin. Over time, its tail develops a forked shape as the trailers grow longer.

To ensure proper care, a 180-gallon or larger aquarium with ample live rock is essential. This setup provides both swimming space and territorial areas. While the Lieutenant Tang can be aggressive towards other Tangs and Surgeonfish, it generally coexists peacefully with other fish species.

In addition to meaty foods, it is vital to offer a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae. This diet supports the Tang’s immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least three times per week. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal and convenient.
