Titan Triggerfish Juvenile
Titan Triggerfish Juvenile (Balistoides viridescens)
The titan triggerfish is the largest triggerfish species, reaching lengths of up to 33.5 inches (85 cm). It features a greenish body with a yellow tail, a white throat, and a distinct caudal peduncle. Its large, well-defined scales and powerful teeth enable it to feed on coral, crustaceans, mollusks, and echinoderms, including the venomous crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster). This fish is capable of moving large rocks to uncover its prey. Generally solitary, it can be quite aggressive during the nesting season. The titan triggerfish is commonly found in lagoons, passes, and external slopes at depths ranging from 3 to 165 feet, with a notable presence in Tetiaroa.
