Wardley Wrasse

Wardley Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus) 

The Wardley Wrasse, also known as the Tail Spot Wrasse or Hoeven’s Wrasse, features a striking blue-green body adorned with horizontal pink or yellow stripes. Juveniles display more muted colors, which become more vibrant as they mature.

To provide a suitable habitat, a 50-gallon or larger aquarium is recommended, complete with a tight-fitting lid and a 2-3 inch sandy substrate for hiding. It’s best kept with other peaceful wrasses, including its own species.

This wrasse is known to consume fireworms and pyramidellid snails, helping protect corals and clams. It may also eat feather dusters, small wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms, and can assist in removing parasites from tank mates. Regular feedings should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, along with high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
