Gold Spotted Rabbitfish
Gold Spotted Rabbitfish (Siganus punctatus)
The Gold Spotted Rabbitfish, also known as the Gold Spotted Spinefoot, is native to the reefs of the Coral Sea. This striking fish has a brown body adorned with numerous golden spots, which even extend into its eyes for added camouflage.
To thrive, it needs a 180-gallon or larger aquarium. While generally peaceful, it may show aggression toward other Rabbitfish. The Gold Spotted Rabbitfish can be kept with more aggressive species and may even form pairs. Its venomous dorsal spines serve as a deterrent to predators, but care should be taken when handling to avoid stings. When well-fed, Rabbitfish are typically reef-safe; however, if underfed, they might nip at and consume certain LPS and soft corals.
Their diet consists of a variety of fresh vegetables and algae, but they may also nip at some coral polyps.
