Flagtail Shrimp Goby
Flagtail Shrimp Goby (Amblyeleotris yanoi)
The Flagtail Shrimp Goby is a stunningly colored species of shrimp goby known for its vibrant patterns and symbiotic relationship with various alpheid shrimp. Its body is silvery white, adorned with striking orange bars, and it features an eye-catching orange and yellow spade-shaped tail. The dorsal, caudal, and anal fins can also showcase a brilliant light blue-green hue, adding to its visual appeal. This shrimp goby forms a unique bond with burrowing shrimp, offering vigilant watch while the shrimp digs a shared burrow. For optimal care, the Flagtail Shrimp Goby thrives in a well-established aquarium of at least 30 gallons, equipped with ample live rock and a substrate of fine to moderately sized sand for sifting. A low-profile tank with more horizontal space is preferable, along with a secure lid to prevent jumping. While generally peaceful with other fish, it can be territorial towards its own kind unless kept as a mated pair. The Flagtail Shrimp Goby is suitable for reef aquariums, although it may pose a risk to small, delicate ornamental shrimp. Its diet should include a variety of fresh or frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped table shrimp, with feedings at least twice a day.
