Black Sailfin Blenny
Black Sailfin Blenny (Atrosalarias fuscus)
The Black Sailfin Blenny, prized for its voracious appetite for nuisance microalgae, is easily recognized by its stark black coloration on both body and fins. Often seen perching on live rock to feed, Atrosalarias fuscus adds a striking visual element to any saltwater reef system. Native to the reefs of Java, this blenny requires ample live rock with microalgae for foraging. As an obligate microalgae eater, it needs microalgae in its diet to survive, but its diet can be supplemented with vegetable matter, including frozen and dried foods containing marine and blue-green algae (spirulina).
