Blackside Hawkfish
Blackside Hawkfish (Paracirrhites forsteri)
The Freckled Hawkfish, also known as Forster’s Hawkfish or Blackside Hawkfish, displays significant color changes throughout its life. Juveniles are burgundy with a yellow tail, while adults can range from pink to brown or olive. However, the distinctive black or red freckles on its face remain consistent.
A 70-gallon or larger aquarium is essential for this species. It primarily preys on crustaceans and smaller fish and should be introduced last in a semi-aggressive to aggressive tank community. The Freckled Hawkfish tends to become very territorial, often harassing new arrivals, including other hawkfish and even larger fish.
