Blue Ribbon Eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita)

The Ribbon Eel, also known as the Ribbon Moray Eel, is distinguished by its long, ribbon-like body, delicate jaws, and tubular anterior nostrils adorned with a fan-like expansion. This eel’s coloration changes dramatically as it matures. Juveniles are jet-black with a yellow dorsal fin. Upon reaching a length of 25-32 inches, the eel transitions into a male, becoming bright blue with a yellow snout and lower jaw. As it grows beyond 33 inches, it transforms into a female, turning entirely yellow or a combination of yellow and blue. To thrive, the Ribbon Eel requires a tank of at least 100 gallons with a deep sandy bottom (4-5 inches) where it can burrow and hide.
