Boomerang Triggerfish
Boomerang Triggerfish (Sufflamen Bursa)
The Boomerang Triggerfish, also known as the White Line Triggerfish, is recognized for its curious and intelligent nature. These fish are known for their investigative tendencies and can easily rearrange their environment, so it’s advisable to use heavy decorative items in the tank. However, they are not reef-safe, as they may nip at corals and consume small fish and invertebrates. To maintain their health and keep their teeth worn down, feed them a diet rich in meaty foods like krill, silversides, clams, and shrimp. Boomerang Triggerfish are typically found in the Indo-Pacific region, residing in coral reefs and rocky areas with plenty of hiding spots. It’s vital to recreate a similar environment in your aquarium to ensure their well-being. Due to their natural foraging behavior, Boomerang Triggerfish are generally not reef-safe. They can disrupt corals and invertebrates, making them better suited for fish-only or fish-only-with-live-rock (FOWLR) setups. In captivity, these fish can grow up to 10 inches (25 cm) and usually live for 8 to 12 years with proper care. Boomerang Triggerfish are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. They readily accept high-quality marine pellets, frozen foods, and live seafood. A balanced diet is crucial for their health and vibrancy. While not commonly aqua culture, Boomerang Triggerfish are often available from reputable suppliers and online retailers. These fish can be territorial and occasionally aggressive, particularly when establishing their territory. Choose tankmates carefully to minimize conflicts; suitable companions include Clownfish, larger angelfish, tangs, and certain wrasses.
