Central Pacific Anthias
Central Pacific Anthias (Pseudanthias aurulentus)
The Central Pacific Anthias is a highly sought-after addition for experienced reef hobbyists, not just for its stunning pink and yellow hues, but also for its lively behavior, friendly disposition, and indifference towards corals, sessile invertebrates, and other fish species. Its rarity in the aquarium trade, due to limited harvesting, remote habitats, and the great depths at which it thrives, further elevates the allure of this deep-sea gem.
Like many Anthias species, the Central Pacific Anthias can be kept alone but thrives best in small shoals of several individuals. All Anthias are hermaphroditic, meaning if the dominant male dies, the largest female can transform into a fully functioning male. To recreate their natural habitat, use plenty of live rock to create caves and hiding places. Maintain open areas and ample surface area for proper water oxygenation. For a dramatic aquarium display, consider designing a steep reef profile with a slight overhang to provide additional shelter and diffused lighting.
