Chocolate Mocha Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris x A. ocellaris var.)

The Mocha Clownfish is an attractive species with dark orange coloration and contrasting white bands, making it a striking and affordable addition to any aquarium. This captive-bred clownfish grows to a maximum size of 3 inches and can be kept either singly or in groups.

Captive-bred Ocellaris Clownfish, such as the Mocha Clownfish, have several advantages over their wild-harvested counterparts. They are hardy and more accustomed to the conditions found in home aquariums, making them an excellent choice for both novice and experienced aquarists. Additionally, Mocha Clownfish can be housed with other captive-bred clownfish if introduced at the same time.

Breeding Mocha Clownfish in home aquariums is relatively straightforward. Females are typically the larger of the pair, and the two fish usually stay close to each other. The Mocha Clownfish is an egg layer, depositing eggs on flat surfaces and defending them from other tank mates. Depending on the temperature, the eggs usually hatch in 6-11 days. Fry should be reared in a separate aquarium and fed a diet of rotifers and baby brine shrimp.

As omnivores, Mocha Clownfish require a diet that includes both meaty foods and some herbivore fare. They readily accept high-quality marine flake food rich in spirulina algae, as well as freeze-dried and frozen foods.
