Cortez Angelfish (Pomacanthus zonipectus)

The Cortez Angelfish undergoes significant color changes from its juvenile to adult stages. In its juvenile phase, it appears black with yellow and blue semi-circular striping radiating from the tail. As an adult, the Cortez Angelfish takes on a blue hue with a pale, speckled mid-section and a vertical yellow stripe just behind the head. The dorsal fin is long and green-blue, and the head is blue with another yellow vertical stripe just behind the eye.

For proper care, the Cortez Angelfish necessitates a tank of at least 250 gallons, and it is recommended to keep it as the sole angelfish in the tank, even when juvenile. Unsuitable for reef tanks, it consumes sponges and may also feed on stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles.

Its diet should include Spirulina, marine algae, shrimp, other meaty items, and high-quality angelfish preparations containing sponges.
