Crosshatch Triggerfish
Crosshatch Triggerfish (Xanthichthys mento)
The Crosshatch Triggerfish, also known as the Blue Cheekline Triggerfish, boasts a striking coloration and unique pattern. Its body is primarily yellow, adorned with dark lines that form a crosshatch design. The fish’s face features distinct blue lines extending from the mouth to the back of the gill plate. Its fins are a vibrant blue with yellow edges, while the tail showcases a striking red hue. To thrive, the Crosshatch Triggerfish requires a spacious aquarium of at least 180 gallons, complete with rocks and caves, as it enjoys rearranging its surroundings. It communicates with a distinctive “grunting” sound and is known for its friendly nature, making it an excellent pet and a captivating conversation piece. A varied diet of meaty foods is essential, including squid, krill, clams, small fish, and hard-shelled shrimp, which help manage its continuously growing teeth.
