Engineer Goby
Engineer Goby (Pholidichthys leucotaenia)
The Engineer Goby, also known as the Convict Goby, belongs to a different family from other gobies and blennies. Its coloration evolves with age, featuring a consistent dark blue to black pattern on a white background. Juveniles have horizontal stripes running along their bodies, which transform into vertical bands as they mature.
This species requires a tank of at least 55 gallons with a sand substrate for burrowing. It thrives with peaceful tank mates and needs ample hiding spots. For optimal results, introduce small groups or pairs simultaneously to the aquarium.
The Engineer Goby has been known to breed successfully in captivity.
Its diet should include a variety of fresh or frozen seafood, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp, with feeding recommended at least twice daily.
