Fancy Ocellaris Clownfish (A. Ocellaris)
The Fancy Ocellaris Clownfish is one of the most iconic marine fish for aquariums. Its vibrant orange body, adorned with white bands and bold black outlines, sets it apart from the Ocellaris Clownfish. This Fancy Ocellaris Clownfish features wider central bars, a darker orange hue, and more pronounced black edging compared to other Ocellaris varieties.
Belonging to the Pomacentridae family, the ORA® Fancy Ocellaris Clownfish is a superb choice for any saltwater tank. Its appeal to aquarists is heightened by the fact that each Fancy Ocellaris is bred in captivity, helping to protect delicate reef habitats worldwide.
Captive-bred Clownfish offer several advantages over wild-caught species, including greater resilience and adaptation to home aquarium conditions, making them ideal for both beginners and seasoned hobbyists. They also mix well with other captive-bred clownfish when introduced properly.
Breeding the Captive-Bred Ocellaris Clownfish is relatively straightforward. The female is the larger of the pair, and they typically stay close together. They lay their eggs on a flat surface and guard them from tankmates. The eggs generally hatch within 6 to 11 days, depending on water temperature. The fry should be raised in a separate tank and fed a diet of rotifers, followed by baby brine shrimp.
This clownfish is a hearty eater, thriving on a mix of meaty foods and frozen herbivore preparations. Approximate purchase sizes are Small (¾” to 1-1/4″) and Large (2″ to 3″).
