Freckled Hawkfish
Freckled Hawkfish (Paracirrhites forsteri)Â
The Freckled Hawkfish, also known as Forster’s Hawkfish or Blackside Hawkfish, undergoes notable color changes throughout its life. Juveniles are burgundy with a yellow tail, while adults can range from pink and brown to olive. Despite these changes, the black or red freckles on its face remain consistent.
A 70-gallon or larger aquarium is required for this species. It preys on crustaceans and smaller fish, so it should be the last addition to a semi-aggressive to aggressive tank. The Freckled Hawkfish is highly territorial and may harass new tank mates, including other hawkfish and even larger fish.
Its diet should consist of a variety of marine meats, frozen preparations, and live feeder shrimp.
