Fusilier Damselfish
Fusilier Damselfish (Lepidozygus tapeinosoma)
The Fusilier Damselfish (Lepidozygus tapeinosoma) is an exceptionally striking species with its elongated cylindrical body and forked caudal fin. Native to the Western Pacific Ocean, it is often seen swimming alongside other plankton-feeding fish like anthias. The Fusilier Damselfish boasts a dark greenish base color that transitions to yellow-green toward the tail, complemented by a pinkish area around the mouth and blue dots scattered across its body. Its anal and dorsal fins are edged with blue, while the caudal fin is reddish with a blue tip.
Although not commonly found in home aquariums, this species adapts well to prepared foods and is generally peaceful with other fish species, provided they are not too small.
With its vibrant coloration and sleek form, the Fusilier Damselfish makes a captivating centerpiece for any tank. While it can exhibit territorial behavior, proper care and ample space can help minimize aggression. It can grow up to 4 inches in length and requires a minimum tank size of 55 gallons. Feed it 2-4 times a day with a diet of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, krill, squid, and other meaty foods.
