Golden Angel (Centropyge aurantia)

The Golden Angel, also recognized as the Aurinatus Angelfish or Velvet Dwarf Angel, is a rare and sought-after species in the aquarium hobby. Its distinctive burnt orange/red velvet-like coloration is accentuated by thin, broken yellow vertical bars along each side of the body.

To ensure the well-being of the Golden Angel, a minimum tank size of 55 gallons with ample hiding places and live rock for grazing is recommended. It is advisable to keep this angelfish as the sole dwarf angel in the tank. Rapid adjustment occurs when introduced as one of the first fish in a well-established aquarium or when maintained with peaceful tankmates. While often kept in reef aquariums, caution should be exercised with an abundance of LPS and SPS corals, as the Golden Angel may occasionally nip at them, causing irritation rather than damage.

As with other dwarf angels, the Golden Angel is hermaphroditic, challenging to breed, and lacks distinguishable color variations between males and females. A varied diet consisting of small meaty items, angelfish and herbivore preparations, along with live sponges, is preferred.
