Harlequin Tusk Wrasse – (Choerodon fasciatus)

The Harlequin Tusk, native to the reefs of the Indian Ocean and Australia, showcases two distinct color forms. Indian Ocean Tusks feature orange stripes with white edges and a touch of blue near the tail, while Australian Tusks boast orange stripes with bright blue borders extending from the pectoral fin along the back to the tail. Both varieties possess striking blue tusk-like teeth for crunching on invertebrates. They are an excellent choice for a Fish Only With Live Rock (FOWLR) aquarium.

These fish are generally shy when young but develop personality and confidence as they mature. A tank of at least 125 gallons, with ample live rock for hiding and featuring moderately aggressive, active tank mates like Angels, Tangs, and smaller Triggers, is ideal. Keep only one Harlequin Tusk per tank. While they do not harm corals, they will consume small crustaceans such as snails and crabs.

For their diet, provide vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, along with high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
