Heniochus Brown Butterflyfish
Heniochus Brown Butterflyfish (Heniochus varius)
The Heniochus Brown Butterflyfish, also known as the Humphead Bannerfish, features a dark brown head and body. It has a narrow white band behind its head extending to the breast and a diagonal white band running from the dorsal fin to the base of its tail. This fish is characterized by a hump on its forehead and curved horns over each eye. Although members of the Heniochus genus are often referred to as Bannerfish, they are also recognized as Butterflyfish.
This species can thrive in an aquarium of 125 gallons or larger, especially one with a rocky aquascape that includes overhangs or caves for shelter. Heniochus Brown Butterflyfish can be kept in pairs, provided they are introduced to the tank simultaneously. They adapt more easily if their tank mates are small, docile fish. However, they are known to nip at sessile invertebrates, including corals.
