Keyhole (Melas) Angelfish
Keyhole Angelfish (Centropyge tibicin)
The Tibicen Angelfish, also known as the Keyhole Angelfish or Melas Angelfish, ranks among the larger members of the Centropyge genus. While its coloration may seem subdued compared to other angelfish, featuring primarily dull blue to brownish-blue hues, the yellow pelvic and lower portion of the anal fins, along with a distinctive white vertical bar in the mid-central body area, give it a unique appearance.
For optimal care, allocate a 70-gallon tank or larger for the Tibicen Angelfish, providing ample live rock for hiding and grazing. Be cautious in reef setups, as it may nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles. The Tibicen Angelfish is hermaphroditic, challenging to breed in captivity, and shows no distinguishable color differences between males and females.
Ensure a varied diet for the Tibicen Angelfish, including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty items. Feed 2-3 times daily.
