Linespot Triggerfish (Xanthichthys ringens)

The Linespot Triggerfish, also known as the Striped Triggerfish, is a striking species native to the tropical Indo-Pacific region. With a grey-silver body featuring dashes and spots, this fish showcases a vibrant orange caudal fin. Its rarity in the aquarium trade makes it a prized addition for enthusiasts. Juveniles tend to hide among reefs and rocks, while adults scavenge for food alone. They often sleep perched among rocks and coral or bury themselves in sand for concealment. In the wild, Linespot Triggerfish thrive in coral reefs and rocky areas with plenty of hiding spots. Mimicking their natural habitat in captivity is essential for their well-being, so providing adequate cover and space to explore is important. While they can reach up to 8 inches in length and live for 5 to 10 years or more with proper care, Linespot Triggerfish are not considered reef safe, as they may nip at corals and other invertebrates. Diet-wise, these fish are omnivorous and require a balanced diet of meaty foods like shrimp, clams, squid, and fish, along with some vegetable matter.
