Mimic (Lemon Peel) Tang
Mimic (Lemon Peel) Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus)
The Mimic Lemon Peel Tang, also known as the Mimic Surgeon or Chocolate Surgeonfish, is characterized by its bright yellow, oval body in its juvenile stage. It features blue accents around the eyes and gill covers, mimicking the appearance of the Lemonpeel Angelfish. As it matures, its coloration transitions to a darker tan with red highlights around the eyes and pectoral fins. The dorsal, anal, and caudal fins develop green hues while retaining tan tips.A 125-gallon or larger aquarium with extensive live rock is essential for this species, providing ample swimming space and territorial areas. The Mimic Lemon Peel Tang can be aggressive towards other Tangs and Surgeonfish but is generally peaceful with other fish. While this Tang will eat meaty foods, it is crucial to include a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae. This diet enhances their immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Provide dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, feeding at least three times a week. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal and easy to use.
