Miniatus Grouper (Cephalopholis miniatus)

The Miniatus Grouper, also known as the Miniata Grouper, Coral or Blue-Spot Rockcod, Coral Hind, or Coral Grouper, is a striking and popular fish found in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It makes a stunning addition to a large home aquarium. While it can grow up to 18″ in the wild, tank specimens usually remain under a foot in length.

This hardy species requires a spacious aquarium of 180 gallons or more when fully grown. It can coexist with other large fish, but should not be kept with invertebrates or small fish, as it may prey on them.

In its natural habitat, the Miniatus Grouper preys on schools of reef fish. In captivity, it thrives on a diet of freeze-dried krill soaked in Selcon, feeder goldfish, or squid.
