Naso Tang (Gold)
Naso Tang (Gold) (Naso lituratus)
The Naso Tang, also known as the Orangespine Unicornfish, undergoes significant color changes as it matures. Hawaiian Naso Tangs are typically more vibrant than those from other regions. Juvenile Naso Tangs from Hawaii are dark gray with a blue stripe along the dorsal fin and an orange stripe in the anal fin. As they mature, their body color shifts to a reddish-brown with additional color accents. The tail develops a lyre shape with a yellow vertical bar near the rear, and two orange patches appear near the peduncle spines. The most noticeable change occurs on the face, where a thin black mask forms between the eyes and mouth, outlined in bright yellow, while the lips turn reddish orange. To accommodate their size and activity level, a 180-gallon or larger aquarium is required. The tank should have ample swimming space, hiding spots, and a tight-fitting lid to prevent escape.
