Niger Triggerfish w/Streamers
Niger Triggerfish w/Streamers (Odonus niger)
The Niger Triggerfish showcases a striking purple body adorned with flowing streamers on its tail fins and features a distinctive overbite that gives it a somewhat menacing look. As juveniles, they can be housed with less aggressive fish, but caution is needed as they can be quite timid initially. However, large adult Niger Triggerfish may become more aggressive and develop sharp, fang-like teeth along with those flowing tail streamers. This species is an excellent choice for those seeking a hardy and relatively inexpensive triggerfish to enhance their aquarium. Keep in mind that the Niger Triggerfish may pick at invertebrates, so it’s best suited for fish-only tanks with plenty of live rock. Triggerfish are resilient fish that thrive in spacious tanks filled with live rock. They possess sharp teeth and powerful jaws designed for crushing. Because of their belligerent nature, they may attack invertebrates and will often try to rearrange live rock. It’s advisable to keep them in an aggressive fish-only setup, ideally introducing triggerfish of similar size at the same time to minimize territorial disputes.
