Orange Spotted Watchman Goby
Orange Spotted Watchman Goby (Valenciennea puellaris)
The Diamond Watchman Goby, also known as the Pretty Prawn, Maiden, Orange Spotted Diamond, Orange-dashed Goby, or Orange spotted Sleeper Goby, was first identified in the Indo-Pacific Ocean by Tomiyama in 1956. It features a white body with striking orange spots and is known for its timid nature, making it an excellent addition to a reef tank due to its longevity. For optimal care, house it in a 30-gallon or larger aquarium with live sand and a populated refugium. The goby creates shallow burrows in the substrate, which helps keep it well oxygenated. While generally non-aggressive towards other fish, it can be territorial and may fight with others of its kind unless they are a mated pair. The Diamond Watchman Goby feeds on the bottom by sifting through the sand and should be given a varied diet of live and frozen brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, live black worms, and prepared carnivore foods. Frequent feeding is essential.
