Queen Triggerfish
Queen Triggerfish (Balistes vetula)
The Queen Triggerfish, native to the reefs of the Caribbean, is a stunning addition to any large marine fish-only aquarium. Its triangular shape and vibrant yellow and green coloration, along with an intriguing pattern of lines around its eyes, make it visually striking. The fins display hues of blue to purple, and it has a forked tail. This species requires a spacious aquarium of at least 500 gallons, as they grow quite large and need plenty of swimming room. It’s important to note that Queen Triggerfish are not reef safe and will consume any crustaceans in the tank. They are also among the more aggressive fish, so it’s best to add them last to your collection. For optimal health, the Queen Triggerfish needs a varied diet of meaty foods, including squid, krill, clams, small fish, and hard-shelled shrimp, which help keep their continuously growing teeth in check.
