Radiant Wrasse
Radiant Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis)
The Radiant Wrasse, also known as the Orangehead Wrasse, Iridis Wrasse, or Radiant Africa Wrasse, features a striking adult appearance with a dark red body that lightens at the edges and fins. Its head boasts a vibrant gold color, which continues along the dorsal fin, while juvenile specimens display more muted hues.
To create a suitable environment for this species, a 50-gallon or larger aquarium with a secure lid is ideal. It should include a 2–3-inch sandy substrate for hiding and can house other peaceful wrasses, including members of its own species. The Radiant Wrasse primarily feeds on fire worms and pyramidellid snails, leaving corals and clams unharmed. However, larger individuals may target smaller ornamental shrimp and crabs, as well as feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. They can also help keep tank mates healthy by consuming parasites.
A balanced diet for the Radiant Wrasse should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, along with other meaty foods, as well as high-quality marine flake and pellet foods.
