Saddleback Grouper (Plectropomus laevis)

The Saddleback Grouper is a striking marine fish known for its bold pattern of dark brown to black saddles across a pale body. This reef predator is native to the Indo-Pacific region, often found near coral and rocky reefs at depths ranging from 3 to 50 meters.

As a large, robust species, the Saddleback Grouper can grow up to 24 inches in length. Due to its size and aggressive nature, it requires a spacious saltwater aquarium, typically at least 250 gallons, with plenty of hiding spaces among rocks or coral. It thrives in a well-maintained environment with stable water conditions.

The Saddleback Grouper is carnivorous, feeding primarily on small fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates. In captivity, it should be offered a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and fish. While visually stunning, this species is best suited for experienced aquarists with large tanks due to its size and predatory instincts.
