Spot Fin Squirrelfish (Neoniphon sammara)

The Sammara Squirrelfish, also known as the Bloodspot Squirrelfish, Soldierfish, or Spotfin Squirrelfish, is the most common species of the genus Neophion found in shallow waters. This fish is notable for its striking appearance: its silvery body is adorned with reddish stripes, and its upper body, tail, pectoral fins, and anal fins are highlighted in golden yellow. For optimal care, a 70-gallon or larger aquarium with ample live rock, hiding spots, and plenty of swimming space is recommended. Sammara Squirrelfish thrive in schools and will do well with others of their own species, provided there are enough hiding places and adequate space. They feed on small fish, invertebrates such as worms, crustaceans, and serpent stars. As nocturnal creatures, they prefer to hide during the day and become active at night.
