Striped Squirrelfish
Striped Squirrelfish (Sargocentron xantherythrum)
The Striped Squirrelfish, also known as the Hawaiian Squirrelfish, is a vibrant red fish adorned with slender white horizontal stripes. It is a familiar sight for scuba divers due to its striking appearance.
For optimal care, a 70-gallon or larger aquarium is recommended, featuring plenty of live rock, ample hiding spots, and plenty of swimming space. The Striped Squirrelfish thrives in groups of its own kind, provided there are sufficient hiding places and adequate space. As a nocturnal species, it prefers to hide during the day and becomes more active at night.
When first introduced to the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp can help encourage the fish to start eating. Its diet should include a variety of live feeder shrimp, freeze-dried shrimp, and chopped marine meats.
