Vlamingi Tang
Vlamingi Tang (Naso vlamingii)
The Vlamingii Tang, also known as Vlaming’s Unicornfish or Bignose Unicornfish, features a striking brown to purple coloration as an adult. Juveniles display a gradient from lighter shades on the dorsal side to darker tones ventrally, accented with vertical markings and blue highlights. Their dorsal fin, anal fin, tail, and face are beautifully detailed with bright blue accents. A minimum aquarium size of 360 gallons is essential to provide ample swimming space and hiding spots. It’s important to have a tight-fitting lid to prevent jumping. While the Vlamingii Tang can be aggressive toward other tangs, it is generally peaceful with different fish species and poses no threat to sessile invertebrates in a reef setup. Although Tangs will eat meaty foods, it’s crucial to provide plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae. This diet helps strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression, and improve overall health.
