Yellow Eyed Bristletooth Tang
Yellow Eyed Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus)
Yellow Eyed Bristletooth Tang, also known as the Striped Bristletooth or Goldring Bristletooth, shares the name “Kole Yellow Eye Tang” with its relative, the Spotted Bristletooth.
This species features an oval body shape with striking markings that evolve with maturity. Juveniles display a yellow gold to tan body with stripes and spots, while adults develop a sophisticated brown hue accented by blue to burgundy tones. Depending on their geographic origin, individuals may exhibit either prominent spots or stripes.
A minimum tank size of 70 gallons is essential to provide adequate swimming space. Yellow Eyed Bristletooth Tang can be aggressive towards other Tangs, so it’s best to keep only one per tank. Fortunately, they do not pose a threat to sessile invertebrates in a reef environment.
While Tangs will eat meaty foods alongside other fish, it’s crucial to offer plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae. This diet strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Dried seaweed can be tied to a rock or secured with a veggie clip, and they should be fed at least three times a week. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are excellent choices and easy to use.
