Yellow Spot Rabbitfish (Siganus guttatus)

The Yellow Blotch Rabbitfish, also known as the Orange-Spotted Spinefoot, Orange Spotted Foxface Rabbitfish, or Gold Saddle Rabbitfish, is native to the reefs of the Western Pacific. This species is gaining popularity among reef keepers due to its striking appearance and effective algae-eating behavior. The Yellow Blotch Rabbitfish features a brown body adorned with numerous vibrant orange spots. It also has a distinctive yellow false eye on its posterior, which serves as camouflage to mislead predators. Due to its venomous dorsal spines, which it can raise when threatened, caution is necessary when handling to avoid potential stings. This fish thrives in a 125-gallon or larger aquarium with ample swimming space. While generally peaceful, it may become territorial with other rabbitfish. It can be housed with more aggressive fish and kept in pairs. Although rabbitfish are typically reef-safe when well-fed, they may nip at or consume certain LPS and soft corals if not properly nourished. Its diet should include algae sheets and foods specifically formulated for algae-eating fish.
